Ganges-Danube Cultural Festival of India Organised

  • Ganges-Danube Cultural Festival of India in Hungary held at Vigado Theatre in Budapest (Hungary) from June 17 to June 19, 2016.
  • The Festival comprised of Indian culture, i.e., dance, music, yoga, film and exhibitions and Indian martial art. Hungarian artists, proficient in Indian art forms will also participate in the programme.
  • Dr. Mahesh Shanna, Minister of State for Culture and Tourism (l/C) and Civil Aviation also inaugurated International day of Yoga followed by Yoga workshop.

India and South Korea Launched ‘Korea Plus’for FDI

  • India and South Korea launched Korea Plus, a platform to promote and facilitate Korean Investments in India on June 18, 2016.
  • Korea Plus will act as a mediator in arranging meetings, assisting in public relations and research/evaluation and provide information and counselling to Korean companies investing in India.
  • It covers the entire investment spectrum including supporting Korean enterprises entering the Indian market for the first time, looking into issues faced by Korean companies doing business in India and policy advocacy to the Indian Government on their behalf.

Indian Prime Minister and Sri Lankan President Inaugurated 3affna Stadium

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena jointly inaugrated newly-renovated Duraiappah Stadium in Jaffna on June 18, 2016.
  • The Duraiappah Stadium, named in honour of a former mayor of Jaffna, late Alfred Thambirajah Duraiappah, renovated by the Indian government at a cost of over Rs 7.1 crore.
  • The stadium, which was not in use since 1997. The renovated stadium, with a seating capacity of 1850, will provide the necessary infrastructure to promote sports and recreational activities and assist the overall development of the youth of the war-ravaged Northern Province.

Thailand’s Prime Minister Visited India

  • Thailand Prime Minister Chan-o-cha made visit to India and arrived in New Delhi on June 16, 2016 to enhance bilateral cooperation between two nations.
  • Focus: Enhance bilateral cooperation in the fields of Trade and Investment , Defence, Security, Tourism.
  • Thailand’s Prime Minister and his wife Narapom Chan-o-cha receive a memento at the Rajghat memorial lor Mahatama Gandhi in New Delhi.
  • India, Thailand agreed to build Joint Collaboration in Counter- terrorism. Defence, Maritime security. India and Thailand signed key pacts in the field of culture and education.

India’s Membership of the International Continental Scientific Drilling Programme Approved

  • The Union government on June 15, 2016 approved for Indian membership of the International Continental Scientific Drilling Programme (ICDP) consortium by signing a Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) with the Helmholtz Centre Potsdam GFZ German Research Centre for geosciences. This is a government-funded. Public Law Foundation of the State of Brandenburg, Germany.
  • India would enable engaging internationally renowned experts with profound expertise in different aspects of scientific drilling in order to accomplish deep drilling and associated investigations id Koyna region.
  • As a part of the membership agreement, India will get a seat on two ICDP panels—Executive Committee (EC) and Assembly of ! Governors (AOG).
  • ICDP will provide technical/operational support; facilitate capacity building in terms of manpower training in key scientific areas, sample and data management and support workshops for the Koyna scientific deep drilling project undertaken by Ministry of Earth Sciences.
