Agreement for Bus Service with World Bank

  • India signed a $ 9.2 million grant agreement with the World Bank for the efficient and Sustainable City Bus Service Project’ on May 31, 2016.
  • The project’s objective is to improve the efficiency and attractiveness of city bus transport and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the demonstration cities of Bhopal, Chandigarh, Jaipur and Mira Bhayandar municipality in the Thane district of Maharashtra.
  • The total cost of the programme is $ 113 million, out of which $ 9.2 million will come as a grant from the World Bank and $ 103.07 million will be funded by the Centre, State and city governments for the funding of buses and ancillary infrastructure.

Global Peace Index 2016 Released

  • India is ranked as the 141st country in the Global Peace Index (GPI) 2016 released on June 8, 2016. It is ranked fifth out of the seven countries in the South Asia region.
  • It is compiled by global think tank Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) based in Sydney. Syria has been named the least peaceful, followed by South Sudan, Iraq, Afghanistan and Somalia. On the other hand, Iceland was ranked as the world’s most peaceful country, followed by Denmark and Austria.
  • As per the GPI, the world has become slightly less peaceful. The factor of peace has improved in most of the countries but the gap between the most and least peaceful nations has widened. Last 10 years have witnessed the most historic decline in the world peace as per the Global Peace Index.

The Malware Index List 2016 Released

  • Pakistan topped the list of countries in the Malware Infection Index 2016, which was released on June 7, 20)6 while India ranked 8th on the list.
  • It identifies the key malware threats in the region and ranks markets in Asia Pacific according to how much they are affected,
  • The index is prepared by Microsoft India. It also identified the top three most encountered malware as Gamarue, Skeeyah and Peals malicious computer worm that is commonly distributed via exploit kits and social engineering.
