India and Russia Held High-level Consultations on Terrorism

  • India and Russia held a high-level consultations and shared views on threats posed by terrorism on January 31, 2017.
  • Both India and Russia agreed that the UNSC 1267 Sanctions List processes for blacklisting various terrorists and entities must be stringently complied with.
  • Both sides shared views on the threats posed by scourge of terrorism, including state-sponsored, cross border terrorism faced by India.

India and UAF, Signed 14 Pacts

  • India and the United Arab Emirate (UAE) tlgned 14 pat is to strengthen cooperation across several sectors. Including areas such as defence, security, trade and energy on January 23, 2017.
  • Stronger lndia UAE relations can help stabilise the region and the economic partnership can be a source of regional and global prosperity.
  • Aagreement between UAH’s investment fund and India’s National Infrastructure Investment Fund (N1IF) would be inked, and put in place a framework as to how the fund will be administered and which all sectors it can be invested in.

India Rejected Attempts by EU, Canada for Global Investment Agreement

  • India, along with Brazil, Argentina and some other nations, rejected an informal attempt by the European Union (EU) and Canada to work towards a global investment agreement at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) on January 23, 2017.
  • The ISDS mechanism became contentious as it permits companies to drag governments to international arbitration without exhausting the local remedies and claim huge amounts as compensation citing losses they suffered due to reasons, including policy changes.
  • The pact, among other things, aims to facilitate easier movement of skilled workers and professionals across borders for short-term work.

  • India 6- Mauritius Signed MoU for Cooperation in the field of Cooperatives on January 16,2017.
  • The MoU will enable the two countries to collaborate in this vital sector and can significantly benefit thousands of Mauritians. India offered to exchange Us expertise and technology with Mauritius in agro industry, fisheries and dairy sector.
  • The two Ministers expressed satisfaction at the historic, time-tested relationship between India and Mauritius which is anchored in linkages of culture and ancestry has grown from strength to strength over the years, adding that frequent high-level visits have added significant momentum to the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
