2019

Kearse was a candidate to play nickel back in Clemson’s five-DB formations two weeks before his freshman season began, but a shoulder injury forced him to miss the end of fall camp and the Georgia opener, so fellow freshman strong safety Korrin Wiggins moved to nickel and Kearse settled in as Travis Blanks’ backup. Kearse logged some spare playing time in home blowouts against South Carolina State in week 2 and Wake Forest in week 4 before being thrown into 75 snaps in Clemson’s 49-14 triumph over the Syracuse Orange in week 5, earning eight tackles and his first career interception. He started the following week against Boston College and had four tackles.

However, Kearse only played three snaps against Florida State in Week 7. A knee injury to Travis Blanks during the next two weeks versus Maryland and Virginia provided Kearse additional playing time, and he recorded two interceptions. He played all 81 snaps and had 10 tackles in the season finale versus South Carolina. 2016

Kearse declared after the 2016 national championship game that he would forego his senior season and join the NFL draught, with several mock draughts predicting him as a late first-round pick.

He was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the seventh round (244th overall) in the 2016 NFL Draft, joining his teammate on the Tigers’ defence, cornerback Mackensie Alexander, who was selected by the Vikings in the second round. Kearse, who watched the NFL draught with his family in his hometown, was passed over by NFL teams round after round. “After I was drafted, I flung the caps on the ground,” Kearse explained. “I was given a chance by the Vikings. 31 was flung to the ground after passing on me. The Vikings are the fortunate ones. I will undoubtedly make the other 31 pay.”

Kearse made his NFL debut in Week 7 against the Philadelphia Eagles, playing 52 of 58 snaps and earning two tackles after starter Andrew Sendejo suffered an ankle injury while intercepting a ball.

2014

He started 12 of 13 games as a sophomore in 2014, totaling 67 tackles, two interceptions, and three sacks.

2013

In 1,998 snaps across 40 games with 29 starts, he accumulated 164 total tackles (11.5 tackles for loss), seven interceptions, 11 pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and two recovered fumbles.

He declared for the 2016 NFL Draft early after his junior season.

2012

Kearse, a Fort Myers, Florida native, transferred to South Fort Myers High School in January 2012 after three years of primarily playing quarterback at Cypress Lake High School. He started on defence as a freshman then shifted to offence as a junior, totaling 1,600 running yards and 17 touchdowns.

As a senior at South Fort Myers, he played safety, running back, and wide receiver, helping his team to an 11-2 record after rushing for 528 yards (12.3 yards per carry) and five touchdowns, along with five more receiving scores while averaging 18.9 yards per reception; as a safety on defence, he also recorded 87 tackles, three sacks, and an interception. He was invited to participate in the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl in Houston, Texas, following his senior season. Kearse also ran track and field for the Wolfpack.

Kearse, who is frequently categorised as a “athlete” by most recruiting agencies, was regarded as a four-star prospect by Rivals.com and the No. 16 athlete in the country by both Rivals and 247Sports.com. Scout.com ranked him as the seventh best outside linebacker in the class of 2012, while MaxPreps ranked him as the fifteenth greatest athlete in the country and a four-star recruit.

Kearse originally committed to Auburn University in August 2011, but switched to the University of Miami in January 2012 after the Tigers lost coach Gus Malzahn to Arkansas State. Kearse shared a photo on Twitter of himself carrying a Miami helmet and wearing a Hurricanes hoodie while standing next to Hurricanes coach Al Golden.

However, after attending Clemson’s camp in June, he de-committed from the Hurricanes and ultimately committed to Clemson University on August 2, 2012. “I selected Clemson because the coaches are genuine individuals who care about their athletes, and it’s simply a terrific environment to be with a group of guys who all want the best for you,” Kearse explained.

2002

His uncle, Jevon Kearse, is a former Florida Gators All-American and longtime Tennessee Titans defensive end, while his cousin, Phillip Buchanon, played college football at Miami and was drafted in the first round by the Oakland Raiders in 2002. That was a “watershed moment” in Kearse’s life, he said.
