Official Debut

Norris made his racing debut in 2014 in the Ginetta Junior Championship, a satellite series of the British Touring Car Championship. He won four races, earned the Rookie Cup, and finished third in the championship. Carlin Motorsport has signed Norris to compete in the upcoming MSA Formula Championship. To win the championship, Norris required eight victories, 10 pole positions, and fourteen podium finishes.

He also raced for Mücke Motorsport in the ADAC and Italian Formula 4 championships, where he finished on the podium six times out of a possible eight times. In January 2016, Norris headed to New Zealand to compete in the Toyota Racing Series with the M2 Competition team. He won six races, including the New Zealand Grand Prix. This was Lando’s most lucrative year ever. He was named McLaren Autosport BRDC Young Driver and British Racing Driver of the Year after winning three championships.

Beginning of F1 Journey

He raced full-time with Carlin in the 2017 European Formula 3 Championship, competing against Joel Eriksson, Maximilian Günther, and Callum Ilott for the championship. Norris finished on the podium in twenty of the thirty races, with nine victories and eight pole positions. In February 2017, he also joined McLaren as a junior driver.

Norris took part in a McLaren mid-season test. He set the second-fastest lap time on the second day of testing at the Hungaroring. The McLaren Young driver continued his meteoric rise through the levels of motorsport, becoming the youngest FIA Formula 3 European Champion. He was designated the official test and reserve driver for the McLaren Formula One team in November.

He competed in the 2018 FIA Formula 2 Championship full-time, winning the season’s first race from pole position at the Bahrain International Circuit. The F1 racer signed a deal with McLaren to drive in the 2019 Formula One World Championship. He made his debut at the Australian Grand Prix, finishing eighth. He finished sixth in Bahrain and scored his first Formula One points.

McLaren Contract

Norris finished his maiden Formula One season in eleventh place in the driver standings with 49 points. He agreed to a multi-year deal with McLaren that will keep him with the team from 2020 through 2022. Norris qualified fourth for the Austrian Grand Prix, the season’s first race.

Lewis Hamilton moved up to third due to a grid penalty, the highest starting position of his career at the moment and the highest for McLaren since the 2016 Austrian Grand Prix.
