e-National Agriculture Market Portal Launched

  • Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched National Agriculture Market (eNAM) portal on April 13, 2016 to connect e-mandis in several States at a function in New Delhi.
  • The NAM will enable farmers in 8 states to sell 25 commodities online in 21 wholesale mandis and get better prices. The States, include Gujarat, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
  • The government is aiming to integrate 200 mandis by September, 2016 and entire 585 mandis by March, 2018.1200 crore has sanctioned for this purpose. A total of 25 commodities including onion, potato, apple, wheat, pulses, coarse grains and cotton, have been identified for online trading.

Gram Uday Se Bharat Uday Abhiyan Launched

  • Indian government has launched the Gram Uday Se Bharat Uday ! Abhiyan on the occasion of the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar (April 13, 2016) in the Mhow (Madhya Pradesh). This programme aims to strengthen Panchayati Raj in villages and ensure social harmony.
  • The campaign will be run jointly by the Ministries of Rural Development, Agriculture, Social Justice, Labour and Information and Broadcasting along with the States. During the campaign, discussions on issues pertaining to rural development, improving farmers’ income, SC and ST welfare and social harmony will be held on different platforms.
  • Village farmer assemblies will be organised to promote agriculture by providing information to farmers about various schemes of the government such as Fasal Bima Yojana and Soil Health Card scheme. Prabhat Pheris will be held in villages and sanitation cultural and sports programme will also be held.

Maritime India Summit 2016 Held

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Maritime India Summit 2016 at the Bombay Convention and Exhibition Centre in Goregaon (Maharashtra) on April 13, 2016. The 1 summit was scheduled from April 14 to 16, 2016. This was India’s first ever Maritime Summit and it was organised by Union Ministry of Shipping.
  • Its main purpose was to boost India’s exports by 2025, and create 40 lakh direct jobs and indirect employment for 60 lakh people. The global business community was invited to partner with the government to give shape to’ a process of port led development.
  • Prime Minister also released national perspective plan of the Sagarmala programme. It is expected to increase port capacity from 1400 to 3000 million tonnes by 2025. Ports modernisation, integrate them with SEZs, Port based Smart Cities, Industrial Parks, Warehouses, Logistics Parks will be done by the government.

3rd Asia Ministerial Conference on Tiger Conservation Held

  • The Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the three-day 3rd Edition of Asia Ministerial Conference on Tiger Conservation in New Delhi on April 12, 2016. More than 700 tiger experts, scientists, managers, donors and other stakeholders are gathering to discuss issues related to tiger conservation.
  • Several Tiger Range Countries like India, Nepal, Russia and Bhutan have registered an increase in tiger population, the status of Tiger remains endangered.
