Government Launched Standup India Scheme

  • Prime Minister, Narendra Modi launched Startup India Scheme and a web portal for the scheme on April 5, 2016. It is airmed at providing credit to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and women in non-farm sectors.
  • Under this scheme composite loan between 10 lakh and upto 11 crore, well be provided for setting up any new enterprise.
  • Use of debit card for payment withdrawl, credit history of borrowers, refinancing facility through SIDBI, Rs 5000 crore for credit guarantee, we portal etc. will be the key features of scheme.

Union Government Constituted Madhukar Gupta Committee

  • The Union government on April 5, 2016 constituted Madhukar Gupta Committee to suggest ways to strengthen border protection along the border of Pakistan. It will also looks into’ issues like gaps and vulnerability in border fencing along Indo-Pak border.
  • It will suggest a ways to fix the issue on interim and permanent bases and it will submit its report in three months. This committee was formed in the backdrop of recent terrorist attack in Punjab.

India’s Educational Institutions in NIRF Survey

  • The Indian Institute of Sciences (HSc), Bengaluru was judged the best university in national ranking according to survey conducted by National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) while IIM-Bengaluru is the country’s top management institute.
  • This survey was first of its kind which was launched in 2015 by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development. It released its report on April 4, 2016.
  • It includes the institutions in the category of universities engineering, management, pharmacy, architecture and colleges.
