Netflix’s The Watcher: Where Was It Filmed?

The true crime series ‘The Watcher’ on Netflix was created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan. The series is based on a true story written by Reeves Wiedeman and published in The Cut in 2018 under the title ‘The Haunting of a Dream House.’ The plot centres around a married couple who move into the house of their dreams in the suburbs and are excited to start their lives anew in their new community. However, shortly after moving into their new house, the couple begin to receive ominous and threatening correspondence from a person who only identifies himself as “The Watcher.” This develops into a nightmare for the couple.

The existence of unusual neighbors, any one of whom could be the pervert who is harassing the family by sending them threatening letters, is one of the factors that further complicates life for the family. Even if the tense directing manages to keep the audience interested, the film’s overall tone, which is somewhat sinister, and the opulent setting lead one to speculate that it was filmed in the actual residence where the crime took place. If you have been pondering the same thing, you may put your mind at ease now that we have the answer!

The Watcher Filming Locations

The entirety of ‘The Watcher’ was shot in the state of New York, the most of it in Westchester County and New York City. According to the latest information available, principal photography for the first installment of the series began toward the end of September 2021 and continued until the beginning of March 2022. Now, without further ado, let’s have a look at all of the different places that are featured in the Netflix series!

Westchester County, New York

The majority of “The Watcher” was shot in Westchester County, New York, which is the seventh most populous county in the state of New York. In specifically, the production crew sets up their base of operations in a home situated at 1 Warriston Lane in the suburban city of Rye, which is located along the coast. Because of this, the production team doesn’t utilize the actual house located at 657 Boulevard in Westfield, New Jersey, which is where the tale takes place; rather, they use a dwelling that is more fit for the role and more up to date. The actual address, which is 07090, is portrayed in the show; however, the zip code is changed to 11537 for whatever reason.

It’s interesting to note that the series makes up a history for the house, saying that it was built in 1921 and has five bathrooms, four bedrooms, a semi-finished basement, a semi-finished attic, and an inground pool. On the other hand, the genuine Broaddus family resides in a house that was constructed in 1905, occupies about half an acre, has multiple fireplaces, six bedrooms, and four bathrooms, but does not have a swimming pool. However, the Rye residence, which serves as a stand-in for the Westfield residence, was built in 2016 by the architectural company Douglas VanderHorn, which is based in Greenwich, Connecticut.

According to several accounts, significant portions of “The Watcher” are now being filmed in and around New York City, which is the most populous city in the United States. In the month of November 2021, members of the cast and crew were seen filming numerous significant sequences for the first season in and around McCarren Park in Brooklyn, which is located at 776 Lorimer Street. Additionally, it would appear that the cast and crew taped some of the first season’s action at The Tides Motor Inn, which is located in Locust Valley at 888 Bayville Road.
