Rozle Prezelj

  • Slovenian high-jumper Rozle Prezelj has been elected as the new Chairman of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Athletes’ Commission on February 28, 2016. He replaced Namibian Frank Fredericks with immediate effect.
  • Fredericks, who reached the end of his term as chair of the Athletes’ Commission, is also a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and has been named as chairman of the IOC’s Evaluation Commission for the 2024 Olympic’Games bidding race.

Atul Kumar Jain

  • Vice-Admiral Atul Kumar Jain, AVSM, VSM took over as the Chief of Staff, Eastern Naval Command from Vice-Admiral Bimal Verma on February 27, 2016. He replaced Vice-Admiral Bimal Verma, who transferred as the Commander-in-Chief, Andaman & Nicobar Command at Port Blair.
  • He was commissioned in the Indian Navy on July 1, 1982 and post specialisation in Gunnery and Missile Warfare.
  • He held appointments as Gunnery Officer of missile destroyers, IN Ships Ranvijay and Ranvir.

Gianni Infantino

  • Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has elected Gianni Infantino, a European football administrator, as its new President on February 26, 2016 in a bid to restore the world governing body’s reputational damage overseen by his disgraced predecessor. He took over from Sepp platter.
  • He won a second-round vote by securing 115 of the 207 eligible votes in the 2016 FIFA Extraordinary Congress held in Zurich, Switzerland.
  • He defeated Sheikh Salman of Bahrain who got 88 votes followed by Prince All of Jordan had four and Jerome Champagne of France got zero votes.

Hashim Thaci

  • Hashim Thaci has been elected as Kosovo’s President after 71 of the country’s 120 MPs voted in favour of his nomination.
  • Thaci was elected in the 3rd round of voting held on February. 26, 2016 ] after failing to win the two-third majority backing in two votes.
  • He will formally take office on April 7, 2016. He will succeed Atifete Jahjaga. With this, Hashim Thaci becomes 4th President of Kosovo after the country had unilaterally declared independence from Serbia in 2008.
  • The vote followed a deal reached between coalition government partners, the Democratic party of Kosovo (PDK) and Prime Minister Isa Mustafa’s Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), in December, 2014.

Rajendra Singh

  • Rajendra Singh has been appointed as the Director General (DG) of . Coast Guard, the country’s coastal protection force.
  • The Appointments Committee of Cabinet has approved the appointment of Singh as the DG, as per an order issued by Department of Personnel and Training on February 25, 2016.
  • This is the first time an officer from within has been promoted as its Chief which was traditionally headed by a three-star Naval officer. He was awarded the Tatrakshak Medal (TM) by the President on August 15, 1990. In recognition of his distinguished service.
  • Singh joined the Coast Guard in 1980 and is currently the Additional Director General.

Yoichiro Ueno

  • Japanese auto major Honda Motor Company on February 23, 2016 appointed Yoichiro Ueno as new President and CEO of its Indian operations with effect from April 1, 2016. Ueno comes to India from Honda Malaysia Sdn Bhd where he served as the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director since January, 2011.
  • Ueno would be replacing Katsushi Inoue. who has been elevated to the position of Operating Officer of Honda Motor Co. becoming the Chief Operating Officer for Regional Operations (Europe regionr Inoue was appointed President & CEO of HCIL in April. 2015.
    Subhro Kamal Mukherjee.
  • Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee took oath as the 28th Chief Justice of the High Court of Karnataka on February’ 23. 2016. Governor Yajubhai R. Vala administered the oath to Mukherjee.
  • Born on October 10,1955, in Birbhum district of West Bengal, Mukherjee. a sixth-generation lawyer, joined the legal profession in 1982 after his MA. ITR from University of Calcutta.
  • He practiced mainly civil and writ matters for 18 years before being elevated as permanent judge of the High Court of Calcutta on September 15, 2000.
  • On his transfer, he took oath as a Judge of the Karnataka High Coun on April 15. 2015. He was serving as acting Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court since June 1,2015.
