Piety Breakspear (Carnival Row): Is She Dead?

Piety Breakspear is indeed deceased. She is revealed to be the main adversary of the first season throughout the course of the season.

She has known Aoife since she was little, and she once warned her that Absalom would one day become a man of great success, and that his son would surpass even his father.

Thereafter, she grew fixated on the idea of wedlocking Absalom in order to one day give birth to the prodigal son. Unfortunately, she became pregnant while dating Absalom’s political foe Ritter Longerbane (Ronan Vibert). Piety led the public to assume that Absalom was the father of Jonah after they wed.

Despite knowing the truth, Absalom still has a deep affection for Jonah. Piety orchestrates her son’s kidnapping at the beginning of season 1 in order to make him change his bad habits.

Later, to conceal the fact, she poisons Ritter. She is ultimately identified as the perpetrator of the horrifying murders of Dr. Morange, Headmaster Finch, and fae singer Aisling Querelle.

Prior to the start of the series, Piety was sent a letter by Sophie (Caroline Ford), Ritter’s daughter, informing her of her previous relationship with Absalom and the child that resulted from it.

Sophie made the older woman believe that Aisling had written the letter to her. Piety made the golem-like monstrosity known as the Darkasher and murdered Aisling, Finch, and Morange because she believed that Jonah’s status as the fulfilment of the prophesy was under danger.

After the infant was born, the latter two assisted Aisling in hiding him. Piety, however, was unaware that the youngster was in fact Inspector Rycroft “Philo” Philostrate (Orlando Bloom).

Piety spent her entire life working towards her goal and caused irreparable harm in the process. Ironically, her own life implodes on the altar of the aspirations of another woman.

Piety kills Aoife in addition to Aisling, Finch, and Morange as a result of Sophie’s letter. After realising that her husband understands the truth about what she has done, she even murders him.

To force Philo to save her and risk being slain by the Darksher, Piety kidnaps his fairy girlfriend Vignette Stonemoss (Cara Delevingne).

She almost succeeds, but Vignette kills her and disables the Darksher by stabbing her in the back. Jonah reveals in season 2 that Piety hasn’t been found and has been assumed dead; it is implied that Philo and Vignette then dispose of the body. Jonah executes many members of a faun sect while knowing they are innocent of killing his parents.

Carnival Row: Departure of Indira Varma

It is probably safe to presume that Varma won’t feature in the second and last season of “Carnival Row” because her character has already died. “Carnival Row is a thriller that also addresses immigration issues.

She explained the premise of the programme to Vogue India by stating that the setting is a human planet that has been invaded by legendary immigration animals who are all outsiders.

“We’re talking about topics that people would not want to read about in the news, like immigration; perhaps they’re tired of it or harbour hidden prejudices. Hence, it’s important to talk about it in a fun way.

Varma has portrayed a variety of characters in films like “Carnival Row,” “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” and “The Tale of Vox Machina” since her appearance. ‘Damage,’ ‘Dune: The Sisterhood,’ and ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning – Part One’ are a few of her upcoming projects.

Carnival Row: History

She initially waited for her son Jonah and her husband Absalom to come home. She said to Absalom that a demon had appeared before her eyes and that she had exchanged the location of Jonah for the sale of her soul. Absalom and Piety, however, both had a sneaking suspicion that their son would one day topple them.

Jonah eventually found his way home, and Piety welcomed him back and gave him a big hug. She attempted to be sympathetic to him, but he rejected her and refused her love for him because he craves the monarchy and its authority.

Later, as part of the agreement she had to make with the demon, Piety begins slaughtering the fays and cutting off their wings in secret from her own country in order to create dark animals that will serve her. Afterwards, she attempted to murder Vigenette Stonemoss.

Rycroft, on the other hand, rushes to her aid and frees her from the trap. The evil animals then almost kill Rycroft, but Vigenette stabs Piety in the heart, sending her to hell along with all of her beasts.

The Setup Carnival Row begins with a drawn-out explanation of the show’s setting. Man conquered the Fae, a former isolated race of magical beings, in search of its numerous riches.

The Republic of The Burgue withdrew, bringing the battle to an end seven years prior to the commencement of the show, and the Fae were ultimately reduced to servitude by their longtime foes The Pact.

Together with a number of other fantastical animals, we meet Vignette Stonemoss (Cara Delevingne) fleeing from a horrifying slaughter. after using her enchanted wings to sail away on a boat.

Vignette is seen lamenting the loss of a loved one who appears to be Orlando Bloom. However, the ship capsizes, and Vignette wakes up on the shores of The Burgue, a fantasy city with a steampunk-like architecture, where she is promptly imprisoned.

Carnival Row: Second Act Drama

We finally get to watch Philo and Vignette’s first encounter in episode three. During a magical conflict called Tourok, Philo is at a fairy stronghold with hundreds of fairies, including Vignette. The two become friends via romance story clichés and conclude, in classic Tumblr style, that they want it for themselves.

They immediately become entangled with one another as they become hot and heated. The fact that Philo has scars on his back where fairy wings once were indicates that he is half-fae and that his wings were medically removed when he was a child.

To prevent Vignette from fleeing with her fellow fae, Philo convinces several fairies to inform Vignette that he perished during the siege of the citadel. This serves as a subtly effective reminder to everyone that the best course of action when letting someone down gently never involves ghosting.

Vignette has no trouble adjusting to her role as a Black Raven agent, and her mission is to assassinate an informant. Despite losing the battle, Philo unexpectedly shows up and saves Vignette from death.

Following her father’s assassination and defamation for kidnapping Piety’s son, Longerbane’s daughter Sophie (Caroline Ford) assumes his position and inflames the opposition to the Chancellor in an effort to use the “vast tide of wrath in the city” against the magical fae for political gain.

When Jonah and Sophie first meet at Longerbain’s funeral, they click and start a covert relationship.

Carnival Row: Final Season

Return to the murder investigation and Philo’s recent activities! The doctor who was just slain was the one who clipped Philo’s wings when he was a youngster, and Philo confides in his boarding house mistress Portia (Maeve Dermody) that he feels all these killings are connected to him.

She becomes dissatisfied with him after learning that he is half-fae and orders him to pack up his belongings and go. Moreover, Philo learns that the celebrity singer who was killed in the first episode was actually his mother.

Portia is questioned by Sargeant Dumby (Jamie Harris), Philo’s competitor on the force, and she confesses that Philo is a half-blood. This makes him think Philo is the real murderer, so he promptly detains him and places him in a Jail cell next to Vignette. Their romance reignites once they make amends.

It is revealed that Chancellor Jared Breakspear is actually Philo’s father when the latter is abruptly sent to an undisclosed location. He gives Philo covert assistance so that he can meet Vignette outside of jail.

The fact that Sophie is truly Piety’s sister is also revealed to Jonah shortly after this other major family revelation. This makes Jonah feel somewhat repulsed, so he informs Sophie.

Under the belief that becoming a superstar power couple and advancing some sort of master race, Sophie decides she is genuinely 100% in favour of incest and goes all in. Sophie is a yuck.

When Ezra finds Imogen in bed with Agreus, he freaks out, drags her out of bed by her hair, and pulls a revolver on the couple. Being the chad that he is, Agreus headbutts Ezra until he collapses on the ground.

Carnival Row: Plot

  • A random puck who joined a radical gang faced the Chancellor back in The Burgue. He repeatedly stabs the Chancellor as he accuses her of costing him his job.
  • He survives, but only for a short period, as Piety covertly kills him as he is getting better from his stabbing. She chops out his liver as a clever practical joke and uses it in a spell to find Philo, revealing that she is also in charge of the tentacle monster known as a Darkasher.
  • She learns about the romance between Philo and Vignette as a result, and she then kidnaps Vignette to serve as bait for Philo to lure him into a trap.
  • She takes Philo into the sewers where the Darkasher is dozing, where he must struggle to survive. Philo finds it difficult to kill the Darkasher because doing so would break its connection to its host.
  • Due to Piety and the Darkasher’s mystical connection, Philo is able to harm the Cthulu hentai creature. This momentary distraction allows Vignette to stab Piety in the back of the head with some scissors, killing both Piety and the Darkasher.
  • Jonah comes to terms with the idea that he is now the new chancellor and in charge of everyone inside The Burgue and Carnival Row following the deaths of the Chancellor and his mother.

  • As a result of the pucks’ assassination of the chancellor, Carnival Row is shut down, forcing all magical creatures to remain within its confines.
  • Jonah learns that Sophie forged a letter of blackmail pretending to be his mother, and the two work together to bring down the mystical creatures in The Burgue. The two will undoubtedly serve as significant villains in the remaining episodes of the series.
  • Just before The Burgue is closed down, Imogen and Agreus leave in an effort to get as far away from the location as possible.
  • Despite the bullseye still painted on his back due to his human status during this magical kind of segregation, Philo chooses to join Vignette in The Row.
  • That concluded season one. The programme is likely to have a tonne of action as all-out war has effectively been declared, and the second and final season is just around the corner.
