Their romantic adventures began in 2013. They first met that year, when they were both going through divorces.

Career Of P.J. Fleck

Fleck was signed as an undrafted free agent by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2004 NFL Draft. After suffering a significant shoulder injury during the preseason, he spent the majority of the 2004 season and the following season on injured reserve. The 49ers released Fleck on June 12, 2006.

Fleck was named Western Michigan University’s new head coach on December 17, 2012.

    2017

    Fleck’s Broncos were invited to the 2017 Cotton Bowl Classic as the highest-ranked team in the “Group of Five,” easily the most prestigious bowl in Western Michigan football history. They were defeated by Wisconsin by a score of 24-16.

    On January 6, 2017, he accepted the head football coaching position at the University of Minnesota after Tracy Claeys was fired. Fleck agreed to a one-year extension on November 21, 2017 that would extend his contract through the 2022 season after initially signing a five-year, $18 million contract in January 2017.

    The annual salary would begin at $3.5 million per year and increase by $50,000 each year until January 31, 2023. His team won its first game (17-7) against Buffalo, then Oregon State (48-14) and Middle Tennessee State (34-3) to start the season 3-0, but sputtered down the stretch and lost 31-0 to No. 5 Wisconsin, dropping Minnesota to 5-7 and out of the playoffs.

    Fleck was named one of five finalists for the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year award on December 6, 2016, alongside Colorado’s Mike MacIntyre, Washington’s Chris Petersen, Alabama’s Nick Saban, and Penn State’s James Franklin.

    Fleck joined Jim Harbaugh, Steve Spurrier, Jeff Brohm, Joey Jones, Kliff Kingsbury, and Kyle Whittingham as one of seven FBS head coaches with NFL playing experience by 2015.

    The Broncos defeated No. 24-ranked Toledo 35-30 on the road at the Glass Bowl on November 27, 2015, for the program’s first-ever win over a ranked opponent. Previously, Western was 0-3 against top-25 teams.

    WMU finished the regular season with a 7-5 record (6–2 MAC). 7 of the 12 opponents went on to play in a bowl game. WMU’s 7-5 record earned the team a bowl berth for the second year in a row, marking the first time in programme history that the team appeared in bowl games in consecutive seasons.

    The Broncos defeated the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders 45-31 in the Bahamas Bowl on December 24, 2015. WMU had previously gone 0-6 in postseason bowl games before winning the bowl game.

    2014

    Fleck was one of 20 semi-finalists for the Maxwell Coach of the Year award on November 20, 2014.

    Fleck was named the 2014 MAC Coach of the Year after finishing the regular season with an 8-4 record. WMU’s seven-game win improvement from the previous season was the best in school history. WMU rewarded Fleck with a contract extension through the 2020 season. Fleck earned an additional $61,000 in bonuses in addition to his base salary of $392,500 by meeting contract incentives ($25,000 for a bowl game appearance, $15,000 for MAC Coach of the Year, $12,000 for eight wins, and $9,000 for player all-conference honours).

    Fleck’s new contract paid him $800,000 per year plus bonuses, making him the highest-paid coach in the MAC, nearly 45 percent more than second-place Frank Solich ($554,500).

He bleeds NIU, and he would have tremendous pride and passion working not just for me, but for the university, to help continue what we started last year, and really what he started here as a player.

    His recruiting abilities and passing game expertise, combined with Coach Carey’s run game coordinator duties, will be an excellent combination for our offence.” On February 3, 2012, Fleck abruptly resigned from his position at Northern Illinois to accept a position as wide receivers coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League. The move reunited him with Schiano, who had recently left Rutgers for the head coaching job with the Buccaneers.

    2010

    Rutgers University hired Fleck as wide receivers coach under head coach Greg Schiano in 2010.

    2007

    Northern Illinois head coach Joe Novak hired Fleck as wide receivers coach in 2007, replacing Carnelius Cruz. Novak had stated several years ago that he hoped to hire Fleck as a coach one day.

    Following Novak’s retirement in 2008, Fleck was one of two NIU assistants retained by incoming head coach Jerry Kill, and he was also named recruiting coordinator.

    2006

    Following the 2004 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers signed Fleck as an undrafted free agent. 49ers head coach Dennis Erickson labelled Fleck a “frickin’ warrior” during the first days of rookie training camp. Fleck spent the majority of the 2004 season on the 49ers practise squad before being promoted to the 53-man roster and appearing in the team’s season finale.

    He made one tackle and returned one punt for ten yards while playing special teams. Fleck missed the entire 2005 season due to a significant shoulder injury sustained during the preseason. The 49ers released Fleck on June 12, 2006. On the day he was released, 49ers head coach Mike Nolan offered Fleck a position as assistant wide receivers coach on his coaching staff, saying, “If that’s something he wants to do, I think he’d be very good at it.”

    2003

    Fleck’s second season as head coach began with three non-conference victories over New Mexico State (48-10), #21-ranked Fresno State (21-14), and Miami (OH) (26-3). However, Big Ten play tested the team once more, as they lost four straight games before beating Indiana (38-31).

    Following the following week’s 55-31 loss at Illinois, the latest of several poor defensive performances in conference play, Fleck replaced defensive line coach Joe Rossi with coordinator Robb Smith. The defence improved dramatically, and the team won two of its last three regular-season games against strong opponents, defeating Purdue (41-10), losing to #22 Northwestern (24-14), and beating Wisconsin (37-15).

    The Gophers’ victory over the Badgers brought Paul Bunyan’s Axe back to Minneapolis for the first time since 2003, and earned the programme a trip to the Quick Lane Bowl in Detroit for the second time. Minnesota won its first bowl game under Fleck, defeating the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 34-10 to finish the season 7-6.

    1997

    PJ Fleck began his playing career at Kaneland High School in Maple Park, Illinois, where he helped the Knights win back-to-back state titles in 1997 and 1998.

    As a senior, he set a state record with 95 catches for 1,548 yards and 16 touchdowns.

    1941

    WMU finished the regular season undefeated at 12-0 with a 55-35 victory over Toledo at home on Friday, November 25. WMU had its first undefeated regular season since 1941, when it went 8-0. Following the season, Fleck was named MAC Coach of the Year.

    1904

    Fleck led the Golden Gophers to one of their best seasons in over a half-century in his third season. They got off to a 9-0 start, their best since 1904. The Golden Gophers defeated #4-ranked Penn State in their home opener for the first time since 1977.

    Also, Fleck signed a seven-year, $33.25 million contract in November. Despite losses to the Iowa Hawkeyes and Wisconsin Badgers, Fleck was named Big Ten Coach of the Year by the coaches, sharing the award with Ohio State’s Ryan Day, who received media votes.

    The Gophers went on to win 10 games in the regular season, their first double-digit win total since 1904. Minnesota’s two most successful coaches, Hall of Famers Bernie Bierman and Murray Warmath, never won more than eight games in a season.

    They also tied for the Big Ten West title, their first divisional title since the Big Ten began divisional play. In the 2020 Outback Bowl, they defeated Auburn for their 11th victory, their most since 1904. In both the AP and Coaches College Football polls, the Gophers finished the year ranked 10th in the country, their highest year-end ranking since 1962.
