China Tested 5th-Generation Stealth Fighter FC-31 Gyrfalcon
- China successfully tested its latest stealth fighter of the fifth generation. The FC-31 Gyrfalcon can carry 8 tonnes of weapons and is said to be worth around $ 70 million.
- Previously known as the J-31, the twin-engine, radar-evading aircraft is still under development by Shenyang Aircraft Corp, part of the Aviation Industry Corp of China. The new FC-31. seems to have better stealth capabilities, improved electronic equipment and a larger payload capacity.
NASA’s Satellite Found Hot Atomic Hydrogen in Earth’s Thermosphere
- Using data from NASA’s TIMED satellite, the scientists have discovered the existence of hot atomic hydrogen atmosphere on December 8, 2016. The finding changes current understanding of the hydrogen distribution and its interaction with other atmospheric constituents.
- Because hydrogen atoms are very light, they can easily overcome a. planet’s gravitational force and permanently escape into interplanetary space.
- Atomic hydrogen, as the dominant neutral constituent in the upper layer of the terrestrial atmosphere, is of critical importance for many disparate aspects of aeronomy and heliophysics, such as atmospheric chemistry and energetic, ion-neutral coupling and magnetospheric energy dissipation following geomagnetic storm.
ISRO’s Resourcesat-2A Launched
- The Indian Spice Research Organisation (ISRO) launched its PSLV C36 Resourcesat-2A from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota on December 6,2016.
- The PSLV-XL variant rocket standing 44.4 m tall and weighing 321 tonnes tore into the morning skies with a reverberating sound breaking free of the Earth’s gravitational pull.
- The PSLV rocket is a four stage engine rocket powered by solid and liquid fuel alternatively. The Resourcesat-2A weighing 1235 kg was injected into an 817 km polar Sun Synchronous Orbit at around 20 minutes into the destination.
