BOXING

6th Nations Cup 2017

  • Indian Women’s boxing team as they went on to finish 3rd in the 6th Nations Cup in the Serbian city of Vrbas on January 16, 2017. The medal tally for India stands at one gold, four silver and four bronze.
  • The solo gold for India goes to Neeraj (Haryana). This exceptional talent acquired the gold by defeating the top-seeded Jaina Shekerbekova of Kazakhstan. Surprisingly, this is Neeraj’s first international appearance,
  • The four silvers were acquired by Saijubala Devi (48 kg), Priyanka Chowdhary (60 kg), Pooja (69 kg). They lost to Russia’s Yulia Chumgalakova, Kazakhstan’s Rimma Volosenko, Valentina Khalzova respectively in their bouts.

Thai Championship 2017

  • An eight-year old boy, Abbu Ammaz, from Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri won gold medal in Thai Boxing Championship at the national level on January 9, 2017.
  • Abbu Ammaz, a class 2 student was felicitated by the district authorities and the civil administration as well as by the police.

  • Pankaj Advani won his seventh national title beating Rupesh Shah 5-1 in the final on January 25, 2017.
  • Pankaj Aijan Advani is an Indian professional player of English billiards and former professional snooker player.
  • In recognition of his achievements, the government of India has bestowed several awards upon Advani—Aijuna Award (2004), Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna (2006), and Padma Shri (2009).

3rd Kolkata Open National Championship 2017

  • Pankaj Advani, put up a flawless display to outclass Aditya Mehta 5-1 to win the 3rd Kolkata Open National Invitation Snooker Championship 2017 on January 11, 2017.
  • It is organised by the West Bengal Billiards Association at the Bengal Rowing Club. Pankaj Advani is an Indian professional player of English billiards and former professional snooker player.
  • In recognition of his achievements, the government of India has bestowed several awards upon Advani—Aijuna Award (2004), Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna (2006), and Padma Shri (2009).
