Khajuraho Dance Festival Inaugurated in Madhya Pradesh

  • The Khajuraho Dance Festival is the celebration of the traditional dance forms against the backdrop of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites began on February 19, 2017.
  • The cultural presentation is an intriguing spectacle of art and traditions of India presented in the form of dance.
  • Khajuraho is an ancient site of India. The temples of the area were built during the rule of Rajput Chandela Dynasty dating back to the 10th century. For around 200 years there were numerous beautiful monument erected by the rulers.

 

Himachal Pradesh Governor Launched Campaign against Drug Addiction

  • Himachal Pradesh Governor Acharya Dewrat called for an ‘all out war’ against the menace in the State on February 16, 2017.
  • Drug trade had increased fivefold in States like Manipur, Mizoram and Punjab during past one year as assessed from the seizures made by the investigation agencies and the quantity of drugs which escaped the | lenses of investigating agencies was much more.
  • Use of intoxicants not only negatively impacted the well being of the individuals, but also distorted society and led to heinous crime, poor health, and poor performance in education.

Andaman’s First Film Festival Held

  • The first-ever film festival of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, ‘Indian Panorama’, has begun- here with the screening of short film Three of US directed by Umesh Kulkarni on February 15, 2017.
  • Gandhi the Mahatma, a film by Naresh Chander Lai, A amir Khan-starrer Three Idiots, Mani Ratnam’s Raavan, Golden Peacock winner Maner Manush by Gautam Ghosh and documentaries Rupban by Supriyo Sen are being screened at the festival.

International Coin, Fair Held in Thiruvananthapuram

  • More than 2500 coins from around 500 regions, including those from the time of empires and princely States, were on display at an international coin fair which was organised in Thiruvananthapuram from February 13 to 15, 2017.
  • The District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) organised the event.
  • The three-day event featured the collections of Justin Gilbert Lopez, who holds a Guinness world record for the largest coin collection.
