Steve Keim: Health Updates
According to a report from the NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport on Wednesday, Arizona Cardinals general manager Steve Keim would be taking a health-related leave of absence from the team for an indeterminate period of time.
According to Rapoport, Keim’s responsibilities are currently being covered on a temporary basis by Vice President of Player Personnel Quentin Harris and Vice President of Pro Personnel Adrian Wilson.
Keim will be taking a leave of absence from the Cardinals due to health-related reasons, according to a statement released by the team on Wednesday.
Keim has spent his entire career in the National Football League (NFL) with the Cardinals, having joined the organization in 1999 as a regional scout.
Keim worked his way up through the front office ranks methodically, first becoming the director of college scouting in 2006, then the director of player personnel in 2008, and finally the general manager in 2013.
During this time period, the Arizona Cardinals made their first-ever appearance in the Super Bowl (XLIII) in the 2008 season. They also had five postseason appearances and twice reached the NFC Championship Game.
The Sporting News named Keim the NFL executive of the year for the 2014 season.
Keim was able to secure the support of the Cardinals ownership in March, when he signed a contract extension with the team through the 2027 season along with head coach Kliff Kingsbury. This was in spite of prior late-season troubles for the Cardinals.

Keim was a player at North Carolina State University, when he started left field for a record-setting 36 consecutive games.
He was voted the Offensive Freshman of the Year in 1991 and earned All-ACC honors twice during his career in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Keim was honored with the titles of offensive-line MVP and team captain during his senior year at NC State, where he also earned a degree in business management.
Keim signed contracts with the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League in 1996 and the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League in 1997.
When Germ first joined the Arizona Cardinals in May 1999, he did so in the capacity of an East Boy Scout. In 2006, he was given the position of Director of College Scouting, and in 2008, he was elevated to the position of Director of Player Personnel.
After being elevated to the position of Vice President of Player Personnel in May 2012, Keim was then elevated to the position of General Manager on January 8, 2013.
Keim was selected as the NFL Executive of the Year for the 2013 season by the readers of Pro Football Talk.
Both The Sporting News and Pro Football Talk honored Keim as their NFL Executive of the Year for the 2014 season, making this the second year in a row that he has received this honor.
On February 23, 2015, the Arizona Cardinals announced that they had reached an agreement with Keim on a new four-year contract. This deal would keep him with the Cardinals through the 2018 season.
The Arizona Cardinals made the announcement that Keim had signed a contract extension with the team on February 12, 2018, and it will last until the 2022 season.
