 FIDE World Candidates’ Tournament

  • Sergey Karjakin, Russian grandmaster has won the prestigious FIDE World Chess Candidates Tournament held in Moscow by defeating American grandmaster Fabiano Caruana in the final round on March 28, 2016 with a score of score 8.5 points.
  • With this victory, Sergey Karjakin, the youngest player ever to gain the GM title (at 12 years and 7 months), will now play with the incumbent world champion, Norwegian Grandmaster Magnus Carlsen, in a match for the world chess crown in November, 2016 in New York City.
  • The 26-year-old Karjakin was bom in Ukraine, has competed for the Russian federation since 2009. He would have been the first American-born player to compete to the world title since Bobby Fischer was stripped of the crown in 1975.

Bahrain Grand Prix 2016

  • Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg (Germany) has won the 2016 Gulf Air Formula One Bahrain Grand Prix held at Bahrain International Circuit in Manama on April 3, 2016. With this victory, he romped to his 5th win in a row for Mercedes.
  • It was Rosberg’s overall 16th championship title of FI in his career and the 2nd win in the 2016. Kimi Raikkonen from Finland of Ferrari Team comes in 2nd position and Lewis Hamilton from Great Britain of Mercedes team.
  • Bahrain Grand Prix title race was the 2nd race of the 2016 season of Formula One in which total 11 teams had participated.

Golf

Indian Open 2016

  • Four-time runners-up, SSP Chowrasia won the Hero Indian Open with a two-stroke victory at the prestigious tournament at the Delhi Golf Course on March 20, 2016.
  • He won the title with a sedate one-under 71 in the final round to edge out defending champion Anirban Lahiri (69) and Korea’s Jeunghun Wang (68). With this victory he also secured his European Tour card.
