Nagaland Budget for 2017-18

  • Nagaland Chief Minister Shurhozelie Liezietsu presented a Rs 1437.84 crore deficit budget for the 2017-18 fiscal in the State Assembly on March 29, 2017.
  • He holded the Finance portfolio, proposed the gross receipt for the fiscal at Rs 16657.26 crore and expenditure at Rs 16365.17 crore.
  • The budget emphasised on uplifmient of the poor and the rural population.

ESIC Launched Mobile Clinic Services in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana

  • The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) launched Mobile Clinic Services for the States of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on March 25, 2017.
  • Each mobile clinic will have a vehicle with a doctor, pharmacist, attendant, driver and the necessary equipment and medicines.
  • The vehicle will visit two locations in a day for three hours each and do basic investigations. Each location will be covered twice in a week. –
  • There are 4.30 crore workers in the construction sector and out of them 1.80 crore workers have been registered.

Meghalaya Budget 2017-18

  • The Meghalaya Assembly passed the annual State Budget of over Rs 13048’crore for the year 2017-2018 by a voice vote on March 23, 2017.
  • It had presented a Rs 1236 crore deficit Budget for 2017-18, which is around 3.8% of the Gross State Domestic Product.
  • The Budget also indicated that interest payment during 2017-18 was estimated at Rs 589 crore and pensions at Rs 730 crore.
  • For 2017-18, the total revenue has been projected at Rs 2072 crore, of which the State’s own tax revenue estimated at Rs 1559 crore and State’s own non-tax revenue estimated at Rs 513 crore.
  • An amount of Rs 712.80 crore was allocated for infrastructure like roads and bridges, Rs 420.93 crore for Health and Family Welfare, and Rs 285.94 crore for Agriculture and Horticulture.

  • The archaeology department of Telangana has discovered the world’s largest capstone after excavating an ancient human burial site in Siddipet district, on March 25, 2017.
  • Ancient human burial site excavated by Telangana Archaeology in Narmeta village in Nangunuru mandal has led to a stunning discovery of the world’s largest capstone.

Manipur Economic Blockade Lifted after 5 Months

  • The five-month-long economic blockade in Manipur was lifted after successful talks among the centre, the State government and the Naga groups on March 19, 2017.
  • The blockade was imposed by the United Naga Council on November 1 to protest against the creation of seven new districts by the erstwhile Okram Ibobi Singh-led Congress government in the State.
  • The blockade on two national highways NH-2 and NH-37 has led to steep rise in prices of essential commodities and severely affected the normal life in the State.
