Bihar became Sixth State to Join UDAY Scheme

  • The government of India, the State of Bihar and the DISCOMs of Bihar (North Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited, and South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited) signed.a MoU under the Scheme ‘Ujwal DISCOM Assurance Yojana’.
  • On February 22, 2016, Bihar became the 6th State to have accepted UDAY for bringing about a positive change in the power sector scenario of States. Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand have already signed the MoU under UDAY for operational and financial turnaround of DISCOMs.
  • With the signing of MoU, approximately 33% of Bihar’s DISCOM debt, i.e., around Rs 1.40 lakh crore, would be restructured. The government launched the Scheme UDAY on November 20, 2015 to bring relief to these utilities from the burden of debt and to improve overall performance.

Gujarat to get India’s First Aviation Park

  • ALS on February 9, 2016 Gujarat government has planned to set-up the country’s first-ever aviation park at Ahmedabad, with facilities including an airstrip, training school, helipad and space for setting-up small manufacturing units, among others.
  • According to Captain Ajay Chauhan, CEO of the government-owned Gujarat State Aviation Infrastructure Company Limited (GUJSAIL), this integrated park aims to raise the awareness about the potential of the aviation sector among students, professionals, policy makers and business entities.
  • GUJSAIL in this regard, identified 60 hectare of land near Bagodara village, about 30 km from Ahmedabad There an barely four such parks in the world. In the initial phase, this park will provide platform for educating people about the aviation activities.

Maharashtra has Topped in the Internet Readiness Index

  • As per Index of Internet Readiness of Indian States (NRIS) report released in the month of February, 2016, Maharashtra has topped in terms of the overall Internet readiness index. Maharashtra is followed by Karnataka, Gujarat, Telengana and Tamil Nadu.
  • The report is compiled and published by Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) and Indicus Analytics, The report will help governments and business to leverage the strength internet penetration and suggest policy measures to be taken for improvements.
  • Internet readiness index used four indicators. They are mobile and internet infrastructure, status of the IT service sector, e-participation or use of online transactions and services by1 citizens, e-governance services offered by the States.
