National Capital Goods Policy Unveiled

  • The Union Minister of Heavy Industry and Public Enterprises An ant Ganga Ram Geete has unveiled the National Capital Goods Policy on February 15, 2016. The policy launched by realising the strategic importance of Capital Goods and the pivotal role played by it in the overall manufacturing, as the pillar of strength to the vision of ‘Make in India’.
  • This is a first time ever policy of this sector, with a clear objective of increasing production of capital goods from Rs 230000 crore in 2014-15 to 7 750000 crore in 2025 and raising direct and indirect employment from the current 8.4 million to ~30 million.
  • The Department of Heavy Industry had set-up a Joint Task force with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) as an attempt to ensure that the formulation of the Capital Goods Policy is done in the most democratic manner.

Prime Minister Inaugurated Make in India Centre in Mumbai

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Make in India Week at MMRDA Grounds in Mumbai, Maharashtra on February 13, 2016.
  • It will run till February 18,2016 and aims to showcase the country as an international manufacturing destination.
  • Finland Prime Minister Juha Petri Sipila and Sweden Prime Minister Kjell Lofven were present along with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on this occasion. Prime Minister also inaugurated the ‘Make in India’ Week at NSCI, Worli (Mumbai).
  • The ‘Make in India’ week in Mumbai is the biggest business expo hosted by the country, with government delegations from 49 countries and business delegations from 68’countries participated. Modi said his government wanted to turn India into a global manufacturing hub.

India Stands Committed to Eliminating Malaria by 2030

  • Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare JP Nadda, launched the National Framework for Malaria Elimination (NFME) 2016-2030 on February 11, 2016. The NFME document clearly defines goals, objectives, Strategies, targets and timelines and will serve as a roadmap for advocating and planning malaria elimination in the country in a phased manner.
  • This framework has been developed with a vision to eliminate malaria from the country and contribute to improved health and quality of life, interrupt indigenous transmission of malaria in all States/UTs and alleviation of poverty.
  • The milestones and targets are set for 2016, 2020, 2022, 2024, 2027 and 2030 by when the entire country has sustained zero’ indigenous cases and deaths due to malaria for 3 years and initiated the processes for certification of malaria elimination status to the country.
